Kai-Kai Farm Partners with Boys & Girls Club Martin County, Serving 60 Families with Fresh Produce

John Piser, Co-Executive Director of Fresh RX, who is one of our event servers, was collaborating with the Boys and Girls Club of Martin County to provide its members with a box of fresh vegetables once a month by purchasing a variety of produce from small farms. John placed Kai-Kai team member Merina Ingram in touch with Caitlynne Palmieri, the "Food and Garden Justice Coordinator" at the Boys and Girls Club, because Fresh RX was having challenges locating a variety of veggies from surrounding farmers. Kai-Kai farms a wide range of vegetables and herbs that are ideal for this relationship and made it a perfect match. After some discussion, Merina and Caitlyn came up with a plan for Boys & Girls Club chef Dan to pick up a box of fresh vegetables for 60 households once a month. Different vegetables from the previous month will be included in the boxes each month. The first pickup occurred on April 14, 2023. The boxes contained Swiss chard, Chinese broccoli, mixed lettuce, mixed tomatoes, and chioga beets. We are ecstatic to be collaborating with this wonderful organization and are looking forward to what the future may hold. Future pickup's will be on the second Friday of every month. We will also participate in the SNAP and Fresh Access Bucks programs in our upcoming season, fall 2023, making it possible to feed more families.
